Directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch — a lineup Mashable’s reviewer calls “exceptional.”

What is The Fantastic Four: First Steps about?
Set in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps reintroduces Marvel’s First Family as they face the ultimate trolley problem. Planet-eating Galactus (Ralph Ineson) has marked Earth as next on his menu, but promises to spare it if Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) give up their newborn baby, Franklin. It’s up to the Fantastic Four to save both the world and Franklin — as a family.

Is The Fantastic Four: First Steps worth watching?
“First Steps is, in a word, fantastic,” Mashable’s reviewer Siddhant Adlakha writes. He also calls it “one of the best MCU films in years,” and as you know, there have been dozens. Others appear to agree, as the movie currently holds a solid 87 percent Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and a stellar 91 percent from audiences.
“It’s been ages since a Marvel movie has succeeded like The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a delightful throwback adventure nestling a family soap opera. In many ways, no entry in the MCU has felt as detailed or inspired, let alone shown as much adoration for Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s comic book source material,” Adlakha writes. “You know what they say: the thirty-seventh time’s the charm.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps became available to watch at home via video-on-demand on Sept. 23, 2025, two months post-theatrical release. You can now purchase the film for your digital library on apps like Prime Video and Apple TV or rent it for 30 days. Just keep in mind that when you rent the film, you’ll only have 48 hours to finish watching once you begin.

Disney+ is the streaming home of every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So we should definitely see The Fantastic Four: First Steps make its way to the streamer at some point. Based on the theater-to-streaming trajectory of other Marvel releases, we expect it to make its streaming debut in November 2025.

Best Disney+ deal for Verizon Wireless customers: save $6.99/month on the Disney Bundle
Verizon Wireless customers can save $6.99/month on the Disney Bundle through Verizon myPlan. Just add a Disney Bundle to your account through myPlan, which includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select (all with ads). The trio bundle would regularly cost you $16.99 per month, but by signing up through this myPlan deal, you’ll only pay $10 per month. That’s practically unheard of in the streaming world.
